Oppo’s new A7 Pro Max lands in Pakistan with a promise: a flagship-grade experience at a mid-range price. We spent a week with the A7 Pro Max to test its display, performance, cameras, and battery life. Here’s what we found.

Design & Build

The A7 Pro Max feels solid in hand, with a glossy back panel that reflects light beautifully. It weighs 198 grams and measures 162.9 x 76.5 x 8.1 mm, making it slightly heavier than the average mid-ranger but still comfortable for one-handed use. The phone comes in two colors: Midnight Black and Sunset Orange, both with a premium glass finish.

The side buttons are responsive, and the in-display fingerprint sensor unlocks quickly. The phone also features an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, a rare find in this price range. Build quality is excellent, with no flex or creaking under pressure.

Display

The star of the show is the 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels). Colors are vibrant, with deep blacks and bright whites, and the 120Hz smoothness makes scrolling and gaming feel buttery. Peak brightness hits 1000 nits, so outdoor visibility is decent, though not as bright as some competitors.

The display also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, which enhances the viewing experience for movies and videos. For gamers, the 120Hz refresh rate is a big plus, reducing lag and improving responsiveness.

Performance

Under the hood, the A7 Pro Max is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. In real-world use, the phone handles multitasking, gaming, and everyday apps with ease. We tested it with games like Call of Duty Mobile and Genshin Impact, and it ran smoothly at high settings with no noticeable lag.

The Adreno 720 GPU ensures good graphics performance, and the phone stays cool under load. Benchmark scores (AnTuTu: ~650,000; Geekbench 6: ~3,800 single-core, ~10,500 multi-core) confirm that this is a strong performer for its price.

Camera

The A7 Pro Max features a 50MP triple camera setup with a Sony IMX890 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro lens. The main camera takes sharp, detailed photos in daylight, with accurate colors and good dynamic range. Low-light performance is decent, though not class-leading, with noticeable noise in darker scenes.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens is useful for landscapes and group shots, while the 2MP macro lens is a gimmick for most users. Video recording is capped at 4K@30fps, which is standard for this segment. Selfies are handled by a 16MP front camera, which delivers clear and bright images.

Battery

The 5000mAh battery is the A7 Pro Max’s strongest suit. In our tests, it lasted 18-20 hours of mixed use, including web browsing, social media, and light gaming. With heavy gaming, it dropped to around 8-9 hours, which is still impressive.

Charging is where the A7 Pro Max shines. The 67W SuperVOOC fast charging fills the battery from 0% to 100% in just 45 minutes, according to Oppo’s claims. In practice, it took about 47 minutes to reach full charge, which is one of the fastest in its class.

Verdict

The Oppo A7 Pro Max is a well-rounded mid-range phone that punches above its weight. Its 120Hz AMOLED display, 5000mAh battery, and 67W fast charging make it a standout for multimedia and gaming users. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset ensures smooth performance, and the camera system is solid for everyday use.

While the macro lens is a gimmick and the low-light camera performance could be better, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent package. At Rs. 59,999, the A7 Pro Max offers great value for money, especially if you prioritize display quality and battery life. If you’re looking for a mid-range phone that doesn’t compromise on the essentials, this is a strong contender.
