A new ward with 20 new beds under Paraplegic Center Peshawar was officially inaugurated on Friday, with the aim of providing better treatment facilities to patients in conjunction with the celebrations of Pakistan's 79th Independence Day.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by patients, their caregivers and hospital staff, where the national flag was hoisted and special ceremonies were held. Addressing the event, the speakers emphasized that expansion of rehabilitation facilities for disabled persons and patients suffering from spinal cord injuries is very important.
Increase in medical facilities
With the opening of the new ward, patients coming from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and merged areas of FATA will get rid of the long wait for treatment. The institute has long been providing physiotherapy, prosthetics and other rehabilitation services to the disabled for free or at very low rates.
This center for patients and their families is located in Hayatabad Phase 4 where information regarding admission and treatment can be obtained.
Action plan for future
Medical experts have demanded the provincial government to set up such centers in other major districts like Swat, Mardan and Dera Ismail Khan on the pattern of Peshawar so that patients from remote areas do not have to take the trouble of traveling.
