Local health concerns grew when suspected cases of cholera were reported in Asheri Dara and adjacent areas, prompting government agencies to take immediate action to secure the drinking water supply.
Emergency water tests in Bala Dir
PHE teams sent to affected areas are collecting water samples from local springs, streams and community water supply schemes. Officials have confirmed that water testing is critical in the context of Late Cholera to identify the root cause of contamination and prevent further spread of the disease. The presence of harmful bacteria in water is being evaluated through laboratory analysis.
Ground situation of Asheri Dara
Lack of clean water infrastructure is a chronic problem in Asheri Dara area of Bala Deer and its surroundings. Most of the households here use water from unsafe natural springs which are easily contaminated during rains. Health workers on the ground have started distributing water purification tablets to residents and have instructed them to boil water until the report comes in.
