This calculator finds the percentage increase or decrease between two values — useful for price rises, salary hikes, exam-mark comparisons, weight change, or any before-and-after figure. Enter the original value and the new value and it shows the percent change and the raw difference.
The formula is (new − old) ÷ |old| × 100. A positive result is an increase, a negative one a decrease. For discounts specifically, our Discount calculator also shows the final price, and for cost-to-sale profit, use the Profit Margin calculator.
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. For example, 1000 to 1250 is (1250 − 1000) ÷ 1000 × 100 = 25% increase.
If the new value is larger it is a percentage increase; if smaller, a percentage decrease. The calculator shows which one and by how much.
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For X% of a number, this tool's change formula also helps compare any two figures.
