Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam — a yearly charity of 2.5% on the wealth a Muslim has held above the nisab threshold for one full lunar (Hijri) year. This calculator adds your cash, bank balances, and the market value of your gold and silver, checks it against the nisab, and shows exactly how much Zakat is due.
Nisab is the minimum wealth on which Zakat becomes obligatory: the value of 612.36 grams of silver or 87.48 grams of gold. Most scholars in Pakistan recommend the silver standard because it is lower and so benefits more recipients. Your home, personal car, clothes and everyday household items are exempt — Zakat applies to savings, investments, trade goods and precious metals.
Zakat is 2.5% of the wealth you have held above the nisab threshold for one complete lunar year. For example, on Rs. 1,000,000 of savings above nisab, the Zakat due is Rs. 25,000.
Nisab is the value of 612.36 grams of silver or 87.48 grams of gold. The silver-based nisab is lower and more commonly used in Pakistan, so more people qualify to give and more recipients benefit.
Most scholars hold that Zakat is due on the value of gold and silver you own, including jewellery, once your total wealth is above nisab and a lunar year has passed. Enter the current market value of your gold and silver in the calculator.
On the lunar (Hijri) year, which is about 11 days shorter than the solar year. Many people fix a date in Ramadan each year and calculate their Zakat on that day.
