A discount is simple in principle but easy to get wrong in a shop under pressure. This tool takes the original price and the discount percentage and shows both the final price you pay and the exact rupees you save — so you can check a sale tag or an online offer in a second.

It works for end-of-season sales, flash deals, coupon codes and bulk offers. For a "flat 30% off", enter 30; for "buy at 1,999 was 2,999", you can quickly confirm the effective discount by comparing. To work out selling prices and profit from a cost, use the Profit Margin calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage to get the saving, then subtract it from the price. For example, 20% off Rs. 5,000 saves Rs. 1,000, so you pay Rs. 4,000.

How do I find the sale price after a percentage off?

Enter the original price and the discount percent; the calculator shows the final sale price and the amount saved instantly.

What does "up to 50% off" really mean?

It means the biggest discount on any item is 50% — most items are usually discounted less. Check each item's actual price against its original to see the real saving.

Can I calculate the original price from a sale price?

If you know the sale price and the discount percent, divide the sale price by (1 − discount/100). For a 20% discount, divide the sale price by 0.8.
